BSI Standard 200-4

Modernized BSI Standard 200-4 Business Continuity Management

The revised BSI Standard 200-4 provides a practical guide for the introduction and implementation of a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) within your organization. It particularly highlights the potential synergies with adjacent areas such as information security and crisis management, making the standard a central role in strengthening organizational resilience. Due to these synergies, the establishment of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) and a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) are often approached together. Tools like the fuentis Suite 4 serve as both an ISMS tool and a BCMS tool. With such a tool, the synergy effect can be optimally utilized.

The BSI Standard 200-4 particularly enables inexperienced BCM users to easily engage with the topic, as it goes into more detail compared to ISO 22301. For experienced BCM users, a normative requirement catalog is provided. Depending on the application and goal of the BCMS, there are different levels of approach: Reactive, Developmental, and Standard BCMS. Currently, there is no certification for a Standard BCMS, nor is one planned. However, according to BSI, with a Standard BCMS, you meet all requirements for BCMS certification according to ISO 22301.

Requirement Catalog for BSI Standard 200-4

While the BSI Standard 200-4 combines explanatory texts and concrete requirements in the body text, the requirement catalog for BSI Standard 200-4 provides a compressed overview of all MUST and SHOULD requirements of the Standard BCMS. To link the requirement catalog and individual requirements with BSI Standard 200-4, each requirement includes a reference to the corresponding chapter in BSI Standard 200-4. The structure and sorting of the requirement catalog follow the BCMS process as outlined in BSI Standard 200-4. Currently, BSI does not yet offer a mapping from BSI Standard 200-4 to ISO 22301.
