Frequently asked questions

What is the GDPR?

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a European Union regulation that came into force on May 25, 2018. Its purpose is to ensure the protection of personal data within the EU and to establish uniform rules for the processing of personal data by companies and public authorities in the EU.

The GDPR applies to all companies and organizations that process personal data of EU citizens. This therefore not only affects companies within the EU, but also companies from other countries that process personal data of EU citizens.

Personal data is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes, for example, name, address, email address, telephone number, IP address, location data and biometric data. An effective data protection management system (DPMS) is crucial to ensure the protection and management of this sensitive information.

The GDPR sets out a number of obligations for companies and organisations that process personal data. These include, for example, complying with the principles of data processing, carrying out data protection impact assessments, creating processing directories, appointing a data protection officer and reporting data breaches. A data protection management system (DMS) helps to implement these requirements systematically and efficiently and to ensure that all data protection requirements are met.

In the event of violations of the GDPR, companies and organizations can be subject to heavy fines. The amount of the fines depends on the severity of the violation and can be up to 4% of the global annual turnover or 20 million euros. In addition, affected parties can claim damages and face the threat of a loss of image.

fuentis DSMS unterstützt folgende Standards und Gesetze:

  • Patient Data Protection Act (PDSG)
  • Church Data Protection Act (KDG)
  • University Data Protection Ordinance (HSchulDSV)
